It’s simple. We gather in a group of 10 people (max) and setup your business. We will do a Q&A for about 2 hours on common questions like whether you need an LLC or S corp, how to get your EIN and local business licenses, and, if time permits, we can chat about taxes, bookkeeping, contracts, and copyrights. Then, we will actually fill out all the documents you will need to file to officially form your business. I’ll give you envelopes and stamps, so you will be ready to go the minute the workshop ends. The goal is to spend 4 total hours doing all the paperwork and answering all the questions you will need rather than sitting at home on Google for 87 hours.
Nope. This workshop will be ideal for serviced based small business owners. If you need to raise significant capital ($$$) or need to consider complex issues like investors, licensing and regulatory restrictions, you likely need one-on-one legal services. These workshops are great for photographers, designers, coaches, florists, planners, and other similar small businesses. The workshops are a great option for solo biz owners. I can also help if you have one business partner with whom you will work with 50/50. If you have more partners, the workshop may not be ideal.
There are many options online that help with business setup. Legal Zoom is the most widely known option. These online services are great for some but fail in a couple of respects for others. Here are the reasons why I started doing workshops:
It’s more cost effective than hiring a personal attorney;
It actually provides more one-on-one help to questions and issues than standard online services;
I’m able to educate attendees on why we do certain things and can address any concerns and questions;
I include an operating agreement template for each attendee. This is an important legal document that many business owners go without. We also will make sure you get all the other legal docs and requirements as well (EIN, seller’s permit, DBA, local biz license, etc.);
There’s just something about community. You’ll meet other kickass creativepreneurs.
At Braden Drake Law, you can hire me to do all the work if you have your own stuff to worry about it, and time is your biggest concern. If you want to be involved in learn, don’t want to pay $1,000+ in legal fees, and are willing to do some of the work on your own, my DIY Entity Formation service would be your best bet. Message me with any questions you may have about these options.
I encourage everyone to sign-up and come in person if possible. I do allow a couple of attendees to attend via Zoom call. Let me know if you want to video in. If you do have a group of friends or an audience that could all use the workshop, I would love to come to you if there are enough individuals interested and the time of year is right.
